Pinamungajan joins Environment Month

June is the Philippine's Environment Month, and Municipal Government headed by Mayor Glenn Baricuatro has joined the celebration with a coastal clean-up drive and mangrove planting at the coastlines of barangay Tajao and Cabiangon last Saturday.

Before sunrise, the mayor led municipal workers, barangay officials, police officers, and students from the Pinamungajan National High School and the Santa Monica Academy in the activities that showed concern for Mother Earth.

"I hope that everyone will know, especially the youth, about the importance of mangroves and cleaning up the coasts," said Mayor Baricuatro.

He thanked the participants for waking up early to join the affair that kicked off at about 5 a.m. wherein everyone planted mangrove seedlings and picked up garbage along the coastline.

The clean-up drive started at the mangrove-filled coastline of Cabiangon and ended at the public beach in Barangay Tajao where everybody shared a morning snack.

"It's really fun and fulfilling to know that I have helped in cleaning our coastline especially our public beach," said one of the employees.

The event's theme was "Raise your voice, not the sea level" which highlights climate change and the need to address it.

The Philippine Environment Month is spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
